QU10406 Mainshaft Reverse Gear For 2001.5-2005 NV5600 Transmissions is a quality replacement Mainshaft 5th gear for 2001.5-2005 Dodge Ram 2500, Ram 3500 trucks with New Venture NV5600 6 speed manual transmissions. The 39 tooth Reverse Gear rarely needs to be replaced due to breakage, but if you run your transmission low on oil or with dirty oil, your Mainshaft Reverse Gear bearing bore is almost sure to be damaged. Note: This gear can be used on 1999-2001.5 transmissions if synchronizer ring is also replaced with QU10408 2001.5-2005 Ring.

Tech Note 1: Synchronizer Rings
1999-2000, plus some early 2001 NV5600 transmissions used a unique synchronizer ring that was discontinued long before New Venture went belly up. To the best of my knowledge, no one currently makes rings for those early transmissions. What you need to do is replace the matching gear with a late model gear and purchase a late model ring for that gear. For instance, if your 5th and 6th synchros are out, you need to get a new style QU12001 Main Drive Gear (Input Shaft), QU12013 Mainshaft 6th gear, and 2 QU10408 Synchro Rings.
