Tech Note About Knuckle Seal Design Change: The original 1st design knuckle seal design is unshielded and was used from 2000 to early 2002. A 2nd design, redesigned seal with a shield on the inboard side was introduced in 2002 calendar year as a 2003 model year part. The early QU40233 seals will work on all 2000-2004 Excursions. The later, QU20035 shielded seal will only fit outer axles with a step diameter of approximately 3.115". Most Trucks built prior to mid 2002 will have outer shafts with a step diameter of 3.210" which will not accept the shielded seal. We recommend you order replacement seals that match the seal type your truck originally came with. Our new, QU40318 series replacement outer axle shafts have the 3.115" step and can be used with either seal style.
