1996 and earlier Early NV4500 transmissions utilized a two-plane reverse with either 5.61:1 or 6.34:1 Reverse Gear ratios. With a two-plane reverse, the front half of the wide reverse idler gear receives power from the countershaft and it uses the rear half to transfer power to the large diameter mainshaft reverse gear. The 5.04 ratio Single-plane reverse was introduced for 1997 model year trucks. The power transfer is inline between the countershaft, narrow reverse idler gear, and small diameter mainshaft reverse gear. The idlers, countershafts, reverse gears, and transmission cases are not interchangeable for the two types of reverse gear systems. Our Reverse Idler Gears and Shafts are accurately made and precision ground for precise fit, quiet operation, and long bearing life.
