Jeep first used the Dana 44 Closed Knuckle Beam Type Front Axle in the 1957 cab over engine Forward Control (FC) series of 4x4 trucks. The Dana 44 will be found in FC150 trucks with the 57" wide track option which was basically a 1/2 ton short bed truck. Also using the Dana 44 axle was the long wheel base FC-170 3/4 ton to 1 ton truck which was available with either single or dual rear wheels. Jeep built FC series trucks through the 1965 model year. The 1962-1973 Jeep Gladiator line of trucks would also use the Solid Beam Dana 44 closed knuckle axle as the stock axle. A Dana 44IFS axle was available as on option for 1963 to 1965 model years. The Gladiator line was built in 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton single rear wheel versions, plus a dual rear wheel 1 ton truck.
