Brake Splash Shields deflect road splash and grit from the brake rotors. Rust from road salts or corrosive soils is the most common cause for replacement. The shields can also be bent or torn from hitting rocks off road or from accident damage. Another cause of wrecked shields is incorrect service procedures including driving a chisel between the spindle and knuckle during disassembly.
