Tech Note 1: Product Note
Since these housings are from used transmissions, there will be some RTV sealant you will need to clean off the mating surfaces.

Tech Note 2: Housing Specs
QU10233U GM NV4500 Tailshaft housing is approximately 6-3/8"” long. The casting number is 25868. The bolt pattern on the front is the universal NV4500 8 bolt main case to rear housing pattern. The rear of the housing will need QU50155 output shaft support bearing, QU10319 Bearing Snap Ring, and QU10720 rear output seal.

Tech Note 3: Speedometer Sensors
4x2 GM NV4500 transmissions in C-Series trucks were built with two types of Speedometer Sensors. QU10227 Bolt-In or Push-In type speedometer Sensor first appeared in 1992 and it was used until early 2002 in C-Series GM trucks with the GMT400 body. The Speedometer Sensor is grooved for an o-ring and it is installed by pushing it into a smooth hole in the rear output housing. The sensor has an integeral metal tab that is secured to the tailshaft housing with a bolt.

For the 1999 model year, GM introduced the C-Series, GMT800 body style and it was offered until 2007 with a NV4500 tailshaft housing that uses QU10228 Screw-In Speedometer Sensor. QU10233 is made to work with the screw-in speedometer sensor.

Tech Note 4: Sealants
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied theadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads. See my TM1003 NV4500 Shop Manual or VSG1003DVD NV4500 Overhaul Video for more information.
