Tech Note 1: Servicing Driveshaft
These little springs do sometimes lose their strength and they are also easily lost or damaged when servicing a CV driveshaft. The spring, which fits partway down the CV Ball Stud, puts tension on the CV centering ball allowing the shaft to rotate at an angle without knocking. If the CV Ball and needles are OK, but your spring is iffy, REPLACE IT!
