Driveshaft attachment hardware is one of the most overlooked components requiring frequent replacement. Dodge used bolts with factory pre-applied Threadlocker on the bolt threads. While you can reuse these bolts if you use liquid Threadlocker, you can not compensate for either head wear or bolt fatigue. Replacing your driveshaft attachment hardware when performing other driveshaft service is good preventative maintenance.

Dodge used 3", 3.5", and 4" outside diameter alloy driveshaft tubing with welded seams for 1994 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 rear driveshafts depending upon the year, engine, transmission, and wheelbase. Driveshaft tubing is typically more concentric, straighter, and has a higher Rockwell hardness rating when compared to general purpose tubing. A driveshaft needs to be retubed any time the tube is bent, dinged, or creased. Retubing a driveshaft is best done by a qualified driveline shop that can balance the finished assembly, however any competent machinist with a long bed lathe can successfully retube a driveshaft. See TM3000 Driveshaft Manual or TSB3510 Driveshaft Publications for driveshaft assembly runout specifications.
