Boots/Clamps: 2003 and newer Dodge Ram trucks with two piece rear driveshafts supported by a Center Bearing have a midship slip joint protected by a rubber boot. A boot protected driveshaft slip joint will usually outlast the truck as as long as the boot is intact and there is some grease on the splines. If your Boot is damaged, REPLACE IT! If your Boot is OK, but you are doing other driveshaft service, always clean and grease the splines AND replace the clamps!
Slip Yokes: Dodge has used a number of rear output driveshaft slip yokes for 2003 and newer Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 trucks. All these yokes are made for AAM series universal joints. Gas V8 and most Rams with automatic transmissions will use AAM 1415 series u-joints with 1-3/16" diameter cups. Most Diesel trucks with manual transmissions have 4.178" wide, 1485 series u-joints with 1-3/8" diameter cups. Guys, I wish it was simpler, but before ordering your new slip yoke, you must verify the u-joint size, spline count, and length PLUS decide on a dampened or undampened style yoke.
