Your New Process/New Venture NV273F can be electrically shifted for Mode (4x2, Neutral, 4x4) and Range (1:1 Direct Drive High Range and 2.72:1 Low Range). To enhance on the go shifting, a 3 piece synchronizer set and spring loaded Range Fork are utilized along with vacuum controlled front axle hub-locks. Overall, the NV273D electric shift system is far more reliable than 1980s and 1990s era electric shift transfer cases, but shift malfunctions are not uncommon and the labor time it takes to troubleshoot the problem often exceeds the cost of the defective part itself which can be with any of the shift control parts from the dash switch to the motor.
