NV4500 transmissions were built with two different types of shift covers. 1992-1997 Dodge transmissions have covers with integral shift towers. Late production transmissions have flat top covers and bolt-on shift towers. Only about 1/2 the parts are interchangeable between the early and late cover types.
How to identify early and late shift fork pads: (The late model pads are on the top) The End Pads are NOT interchangeable! In 2005, the early black end pads were replaced by white nylon pads.
Center Pad:
Late Maximum Length: 2.05" (Universal fit, Will also fit early forks)
Early Maximum Length: 2.21" (Do not use on late forks)
End Pad:
Late is closed on lower end and slightly curved to fit fork contour
Early is open on ends & rectangular in shape.
BEWARE OF AFTERMARKET SHIFT FORK PADS! The aftermarket pads we have seen are very brittle and they can break apart under normal shifting loads. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS use the correct genuine NVG shift fork pads for your model!!!
