1978-1979 Ford F-350 front Dana 60 axles have reverse spiral pinion gears that are set above the axle center line. The reverse spiral gearsets are probably not quite as strong as the standard cut gearing, but the high pinion significantly reduces front driveshaft angles and the extra ground clearance helps keep the pinion yoke and front driveshaft u-joint out of harm's way. The standard cut and reverse spiral gearsets ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE!
