Several types of pins are used in NV4500 transmissions. Tiny, solid steel locating pins keep the 3rd and 5th gear thrust washers from rotating. The shift forks are secured by rolled steel pins. Poppet pins transmit spring pressure to the shift rails to hold them in place. Hollow alignment pins locate the tail housing and top cover, and lastly, two types of pins are used in the shift rail interlock system.
