All 1976 to 1979 Ford F-100/F-150 4x4 trucks and 1978-1979 Ford Broncos with open knuckle Dana 44 Front Axles use the same differential and pinion bearings.
All bearings are not created equal for fit or durability, so we only stock first class, long lasting, Timken® Differential and Pinion Bearings for your Dana front axle. Timken® was and is a a major original equipment supplier of top-notch bearing components to Dana Spicer. Since I first started rebuilding Dana axles in the mid 1970's, I have found Timken® Bearings to be the most consistent in relation to the published dimensions of any bearing on the market which makes rebuilding an axle right the first time a WHOLE lot easier!
Most remaining 1976-1979 Ford F100, F150 and 1978-1979 Broncos with open knuckle Dana 44 Front Axles use part time transfer cases and have lockout hubs. With a part time transfer case and lockout hubs, the axle shafts and differential parts do not rotate, so extreme diff/pinion bearing wear is rather rare except in work trucks. However, the flip side is water condensation in the diff has a tendency to cause rust and pitting of the bearings. If your vintage Ford has been used a lot in 4x4 mode or parked outside and subject to temperature changes, there is a good chance that significant wear or water damage may have occurred on your differential and pinion bearings. When you replace the bearings, do not forget to replace the inner axle shaft oil seals.
