The Jeep Wagoneer Closed Knuckle Dana 30 axle uses solid cross, inside lock-up universal joints without seals that are designed to be bathed in a semi-liquid lubricant from inside the closed knuckle balls. By today's standards, these u-joints are way undersized, but given the lighter vehicle weights and modestly powered engines of the early 1970's, the joint size was probably adequate.
