General Motors used the same length axle shafts for all 1960 to 1969 standard duty Dana 44 closed knuckle front axles in Chevy or GMC 1/2 ton K10, K15, K1500, and 3/4 ton K20, K25, K2500 4x4 trucks. All 1/2 ton axles use these axle shafts. For 3/4 ton models, our axle shafts fit standard Dana 44 axles which use QU40188 8 bolt knuckle ball seals. They will not fit the optional, rare Dana 44HD 3/4 ton axles which can be easily identified by the 12 bolt knuckle ball seal (QU40189).

The Closed Knuckle GM Dana 44 axle uses solid cross, inside lock-up universal joints without seals that are designed to be bathed in a semi-liquid lubricant from inside the closed knuckle balls. By today's standards, these u-joints are way undersized, but given the lighter vehicle weights and modestly powered engines of the 1960's, the joint size was probably adequate.
