The AAM 1180 11.8" rear axle used on many Cummins Diesel powered 2013-2018 Ram 3500 dual rear wheel trucks shares many components with the AAM 1150 axle. The most visible difference on factory axles is the 11.8 axle has a cast aluminum differential cover, while the 1150 uses a stamped steel cover. In 2016, the 1180 axle did get one major improvement over the 1150 when the 1180 ring gear was changed from a 12 bolt to a 16 bolt design to handle more torque.
