American Axle 1180 11.8" ring gear rear axles in 2013 to 2018 RAM 3500 DRW cab and chassis trucks were only available with a Tracrite® limited slip differential. The Trac-Rite® posi diffs are a gear type limited slip that provides a good amount of extra grip in low traction conditions but do not adversely affect driveability under normal operating conditions. Changing out differentials in the 1180 axle is pretty straightforward as gear backlash and differential bearing preload is accomplished using threaded adjusters instead of shims. With the AAM 1180, only one differential case offset is used for all ratios, however, there are two different cases used due to a change from 12 bolt to 16 bolt ring gears in 2016.
