The 1999-2010 transfer cases were built at the New Process Plant in Syracuse NY and use the industry standard, round, 6-bolt mounting flange and were available for both manual and automatic transmission equipped 4x4s. Ford dropped the manual transmission option effective with the 2011 model year and the 2011-2016 transfer case front case half was redesigned so it also acts as the rear transmission housing. Most 2011-2016 transfer cases were built at a new Magna plant located in Mexico.
Introduced as the stock Transfer Case for the 1999 Ford Super Duty® F-250, F-350, F450, F550 4x4 trucks, the NV271F Manual Shift Transfer Case with a round, 6 bolt mounting pattern was used through the 2010 model year. The NV271F is a reasonably reliable unit that under went a number of design modifications during it's production life. The NV271F is a manual, shift, chain drive transfer case with a 2.72:1 planetary driven low range and aluminum case castings. It was built at the New Process plant in East Syracuse New York.
