The primary heavy-duty 4 speed manual transmission used in 1980-1987 Ford full size 1/2 ton trucks was the wide-ratio (6.69:1) New Process NP435 which is only synchronized for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. The NP435's have a direct drive 1:1 4th gear.
