As far as hard parts go, the only high wear items in an NP205 are the Forks and Sliding Clutch Collar Rings. Any visible wear on the Fork Tips or Clutch teeth is grounds for replacement. If your Transfer Case will not stay engaged in gear, chances are the Forks and Clutch Rings are toast. Over half of the NP205s we rebuilt needed at least one of these parts replaced and some needed both Forks and both Rings. Sometimes, it does not take much wear before the unit will start jumping out of gear under load.
