Speedometer Gears for NP205 Transfer Cases can be steel or plastic. The steel gears have a smooth inside bore and are held in place by friction from the rear output yoke. Steel gears are very hard to find, but fortunately, they rarely require replacement. Plastic Gears with inside splines replaced the steel gears in the early 1970's. We still have available the GM 7 tooth plastic gears. Final production GM NP205 cases have a steel reluctor wheel for electronic signal generation instead of a speedometer drive gear.
