Jeep used Dana 25 closed knuckle front axles in all the small military (M-series), civilian wagon/truck utility models, and the 1957 FC150 pickup with 48" front tread width (production of all these vehicles ended by 1966). The Dana 25 was also used on civilian CJ Universal models through 1960. From 1961 to around 1965, both the Dana 25 and Dana 27 were used in the CJ Universal after which it appears to have been entirely superseded by the Dana 27. For Jeep full size models, the Dana 27, which was produced in both a solid beam and a rare Independent Front Suspension (IFS) configuration, first appeared with the 1962 Wagoneer and it was used on the Wagoneer line through 1970. The Dana 27 was also used on the CJ Universal line and C101 Commandos from 1966 through 1971. In Wagoneers, the Dana 27 was replaced by a closed knuckle Dana 30 for the 1971 model year. The Dana 27 was superseded in CJ and Commando models with the new Dana 30 open knuckle front axle effective with the 1972 model year. To the best of our information, 1961 International Scouts were the first production vehicle to be equipped with a Dana 27, but in May of 1961, IHC switched to the Model 27AF which has different outer pinion bearing numbers. International started using the 2,500 pound rated Dana 30 FA-11 and FA-21 closed knuckle axle for Scouts in late 1966 or early 1967, but the 2,000 pound capacity FA-14 Dana 27AF still appears in the 1969-1971 Scout 800A and 800B Parts Catalog so it may actually have been used as late as early 1971 with the 4 cylinder engine.
