Mahindra Roxor Parts, Common Issues, and How We Fix Them

WWhat is a Mahindra Roxor??

TThe Mahindra Roxor is a diesel-powered, side-by-side class off-road vehicle built by Mahindra Automotive North America. The platform traces back to the original Jeep CJ — not the modern computer-controlled Wrangler, but the flat-fender mechanical Jeep from the 1940s–1970s. Mahindra acquired the manufacturing rights decades ago and has been building variants in India ever since. The 2018+ Roxor brings that platform to the US with a 2.5L turbodiesel (2.8L on newer models), a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission, and a 2-speed transfer case..

No CVT. No drive-by-wire. A clutch pedal, real gears, real axles, and a drivetrain you can work on with hand tools. It's street-registerable in many states, and a lot of owners run them at highway speeds daily. When something wears out, you replace it with standard bearings and seals — not dealer-only proprietary modules.

What We Know About the Roxor

We've been working with Roxors since 2019. We own a few. We've torn ours down to the frame, measured everything, and identified what crosses to domestic applications and what doesn't. Our exploded views, tech notes, and product line come from hands-on disassembly — not a parts catalog somebody emailed us.

WWhen we pulled our first Roxor apart, we found that many components are derived from — or interchangeable with — classic Jeep and International Scout parts. Dana 25/27/30/44-style axles. Common standard and metric bearings. Driveshaft U-joints and yokes that cross-reference to domestic applications. If you know your way around a CJ or Scout II front axle, a lot of the Roxor will look familiar..

That means two things: you're not stuck buying every replacement part from a single source at whatever they decide to charge, and when the factory component isn't up to the job, there's usually a domestic equivalent that bolts in.

Common Roxor Issues and How We Fix Them

Front Spindle Seals and Bushings

The factory front spindle seals leak. Maybe not right away, but once a Roxor sees regular highway miles or any real off-road use, the spindle seals are one of the first things to go. Water gets past them, contaminates the grease, gets into the wheel bearings, and then you're replacing bearings too — a much more expensive job than catching the seals early.

Our TK4017 Roxor Spindle Seal and Bushing Upgrade Kit replaces the factory seals and bushings. This was one of the first things we did on our own Roxor.

Factory Bearings

The factory wheel and differential bearings are fine for putting around fields and trails at low speed. If you're running 55–70 mph on the highway — which many Roxor owners do — the factory bearings are not what we'd put in there.

We replaced all the wheel and differential bearings in our Roxor with Timken. Our bearing and seal kits:

  • TK4785 — Front Wheel Bearing and Seal Kit
  • TK8378 — Rear Wheel Bearing and Seal Kit
  • TK4042 — Rear Differential Bearing and Seal Kit
  • TK4043 — Front Differential Bearing and Seal Kit

These are assembled with bearings rated for sustained highway speeds and heavy loads. If you're rebuilding axles or doing a bearing service, there's no reason to put factory-grade bearings back in.

Driveshafts and U-Joints

The factory driveshafts are lightweight units with basic U-joints. They work for stock applications at stock speeds. If you've added a lift, bigger tires, or a performance tune, the factory shafts are operating closer to their limit than you'd want — and a U-joint failure at highway speed is not something you want to experience.

Our TKA15128NG (front) and TKA15129NG (rear) are 1310 series driveshaft assemblies built for the Roxor. DOM tubing, long-travel slip yokes, Torque King cold-forged U-joints. Balanced, ready to install, made in the USA. We run these in our own Roxor on 35" tires with ARB lockers — they've taken hits that would have destroyed the factory shafts.

Rear Main Seal

The factory rear crankshaft seal is PTFE. PTFE seals work when installed correctly, but they're less forgiving than a conventional rubber seal if the crank surface has any wear or scoring. For a vehicle that sees infrequent use or sits in dusty conditions, the rear main is worth inspecting during any clutch or flywheel service.

Our TK15528 is a double-lip, spring-loaded seal that provides positive sealing even on cranks with minor surface imperfections. Direct dimensional replacement — no machining, no adapter.

IMPORTANT: PTFE seals install DRY — no oil on the lip. Rubber/FKM seals like the TK15528 get a light coat of engine oil on the lip before installation. Getting this backwards will cause a leak, and accessing the rear main seal again is not cheap.

Steering Components

The Roxor uses ball joints and steering knuckles that are dimensionally similar to classic Jeep Dana 25/27/30/44 front axle components. The factory units are serviceable, but they wear. We stock upper and lower ball joints, steering knuckles (left and right), and the associated hardware. If you're doing a front end refresh, do the ball joints and spindle seals at the same time — you're already in there.
