QK4739 4x4 Front Spindle Seal and Thrust Washer Kit contains genuine original equipment spindle seals and thrust washers to service both sides of your front axle on your 4x4 truck. Fits most Mid 1970's to 1993 SUV, 1/2, and standard 3/4 ton Model 30, 44, 44IFS, and GM 10 bolt open knuckle front 4x4 drive axles. Tech Note 1: Matching Slinger
The matching Axle Shaft Slinger is QU40058.

Tech Note 2: Kit Contents
QK4739 includes two each of these genuine original equipment component parts: QU40056 Small V-Seal, QU40070 Axle Shaft Thrust Washer, and QU40071 Large V-Seal.

Tech Note 3: Dead Spindle Design
The dead spindle design on many early open knuckle front axles use a needle bearing to support the outer axle shaft. To protect the bearing and control axial thrust, a 4 piece set consisting of an Axle Shaft Slinger, Large V-Seal, Small V-Seal, and Thrust Washer was used. We have Kits and individual exact replacement Dana-Spicer Spindle small parts for your hard-working 4x4s.

Tech Note 4: 1985-1993 Dodge
The dead spindle design of the 1985-1993 Dodge Dana 44 CAD front axle uses a needle bearing to support the right outer axle shaft and on 1988-1993 left outer axle shafts. On 1985-1987 trucks, no spindle bearing is used on the LEFT side as the left inner axle shaft is supported next to the yoke by QU50155 Bearing. To protect the spindle bearing and control axial thrust, a 4 piece set consisting of an Axle Shaft Slinger, Large V-Seal, Small V-Seal, and Thrust Washer was used. We have both Kits and individual exact replacement Dana-Spicer Spindle small parts for your hard-working 1985-1993 Dodge 4x4.

Tech Note 5: Ford
Ford used a single, 2" ID metal shell Spindle Seal up to 1972. These axles also have a bronze outer axle shaft thrust washer. For most 1973 and newer axles, these parts were replaced by a larger diameter single rubber V-Seal and a plastic trust washer, however Ford does catalog a 2" ID Rubber V-Seal for some 1973-1976 axles. In 1974, an additional V-Seal was added next to the spindle bearing on most axles. To accommodate the new part, the spindle had to be bored a bit deeper so the spindle bearing could be installed to a slightly greater depth. The 1974 design was used on all subsequent Ford Dana 44 axles through 1979.

Tech Note 6: 1983.5-1996 Ford
The dead, hollow spindle design of the 1983.5-1996 era Ford Dana 44 IFS axles uses one QK4734.5 needle bearing to support the outer axle shaft. Ford used two different Spindle Seal types for 1983.5-1996 Dana 44IFS Front Axles. A two part Spindle Seal and Thrust Washer design was new for 1993, replacing the earlier four piece set-up used on most trucks from 1983.5-1992. Personally, I prefer the older Seal design which can be retrofitted to 1993-1996 trucks if you order (2) QU40058 Slingers and (1) QK4739 Seal and Thrust Washer Set.

Tech Note 7: Jeep
Although Jeep Parts Books show a 2" ID V-Seal for 1974-1979, I can not recall seeing any of Jeeps with the 2" Seal, all had the 2-1/4" ID Seal. In the early 1980's, we did get some Spindle Kits for 1974-1976 drum brake Cherokees on a closeout deal from Jeep that did include the 2" Seal so we sell this and the small Slinger in case you need one for an early production axle, but most if not all 1974-1976 and ALL 1977 and newer J-Series axles have the 2-1/4" Seal and Thrust Washer set-up.
