Tech Note 1: Ratio Change
In 1997, New Venture changed the NV4500 reverse gear ratio from 5.61:1 to 5.04:1. The reverse idler gear bearings are different for the two ratios. QU10001 and QU10005 Bearing Kits are identical except for the reverse idler gear bearings. This change applies to both the NV4500LD transmissions used in gas V8 trucks and NV4500HD models found in trucks powered by Cummins Diesel or gas V10 engines.

Tech Note 2: High Performance Bearings
Six of the eight taper bearing numbers used by New Venture in the NV4500 transmission are Timken® high performance parts. While these bearings and cups are dimensionally the same as standard bearing numbers, the materials and finish are superior. The countershaft and input taper bearings/cups included in our Kits are the exact, high performance Timken® numbers specified by New Venture. These bearings can be identified by a one or two letter suffix after the base bearing part number. It is important to use the correct bearings in your NV4500 transmission as substituting standard bearings for high performance bearings will reduce the torque rating and longevity of your transmission.

Tech Note 3: Optional Gasket
QU10005 Kit includes QU10123 4x4 Rear Output Seal for 1994-2005 Dodge NV4500LD and 1994-2004 Dodge NV4500HD transmissions. 1992-1993 Dodge NV4500 4x4 transmissions did not use a rear output seal, but they do REQUIRE optional TK10519 Gasket. 1994-2005 Dodge 4x4 models did not use a gasket between the transmission and transfer case as both gearboxes are sealed, however, you can install optional TK10519 Gasket if you desire.

Tech Note 4: Optional Seal
QU10005 Kit includes QU10023 4x2 Rear Output Seal with a 2-13/64" ID for 1994-2004 Dodge NV4500HD transmissions in Cummins Diesel or gas V10 trucks. The Rear Output Seal for 1992-1993 Dodge NV4500 and 1994-2005 Dodge NV4500LD 4x2 transmissions is NOT included. You can order separately either QU10178 Unbooted Seal or QU10264 Booted Seal. Both are 1-11/16" ID.

Tech Note 7: Lubricants, Sealants, Threadlockers
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case! Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
