All 1966-1971 Ford Dana 44 front axles had round, four slot spindle nuts from the factory. These parts can typically be reused, but you MUST always check the pin in the Inner Nut. IF the pin is damaged or broken, REPLACE THE NUT!!!

Ford used a single, 2" ID metal shell Spindle Seal up to 1972. These axles also have a bronze outer axle shaft thrust washer. For most 1973 and newer axles, these parts were replaced by a larger diameter single rubber V-Seal and a plastic trust washer, however Ford does catalog a 2" ID Rubber V-Seal for some 1973-1976 axles. In 1974, an additional V-Seal was added next to the spindle bearing on most axles. To accommodate the new part, the spindle had to be bored a bit deeper so the spindle bearing could be installed to a slightly greater depth. The 1974 design was used on all subsequent Ford Dana 44 axles through 1979.
