1976 to 1977-1/2 model year Ford F-250 4x4 trucks with Dana 44 open knuckle front axles up to 1977 serial number Y20000 have a wheel hub that is drilled and tapped on its outboard face in order to bolt on either a solid drive flange (full time) or external mount plastic dial Spicer hub lock (part time). 1977.5-1979 F-250 trucks with Dana 44 axles from 1977 serial number Y20001 all used the internal spline type wheel hub. For all Dana 44 axles in part time F-250 models of the 1976-1979 era, the factory hub locks were made by Dana Spicer, but except for the axle shaft snap rings, no parts are interchangeable between the 1977.5-1979 internal mount and 1976-1977.5 external mount hub-locks.
