Dana manual locking hubs were used on the 1980 and 1981 trucks. Starting in 1982, Dodge installed Borg Warner automatic locking hubs. The auto hubs are nice when they work, but they can be troublesome and most of them were replaced by manual hubs within a few years.
The wheel bearings and seal used on all 1980-1984 Dodge Dana 44 front axles are the same.
It is always good preventative maintenance to replace the all wheel bearings and seals when restoring or maintaining your vintage 4x4. The parts availability for decades old 4x4s declines on a daily basis.
