Ford Sterling 10-1/2" Rear Axles used RTV sealant between the diff cover and axle housing. If desired, you can use a gasket in lieu of RTV. Regardless of if you use RTV sealant, a gasket, or a combination of both the mating faces of the diff housing and axle beam MUST BE Clean! That means NO dirt, fingerprints, old sealant, oil etc. on either mating surface.
