Jeep used Dana 70 Rear Axles in 1957-1967 FC-170 Dual Rear Wheel (DRW), 1962-1970 J-Series DRW, and 1967-1969 M715 series military trucks. You can also find them in special purpose CJ models such as auger rigs, but these were probably added by aftermarket truck builders. Forward Control FC-170 duallys were popular overseas plus many special body versions were built for the government. With an available 84" cab to axle measurement, these trucks were very versatile for their time. Few survive today, but you can see them in the John Wayne African movie Hatari. The civilian J-Series trucks with duals were built with 9000 pound (1962-1964) and 8600 pound (1965-1970) GVW ratings. Only small numbers of J-Series and FC-170 DRW trucks were built and these are quite rare today. M715 series trucks have single rear wheels and GVW ratings of 8,400 to 9,400 pounds depending upon the body style and equipment. Around 32,000 M715 and related trucks were built. Many were left in Vietnam or shipped to Israel, but currently finding a good M715 is not all that hard to do.
