Description

QU50538 Large ID Timken® Tapered Differential Side Bearing for Dana 44 and Dana 53 Axles is most commonly used in most Dana 53 and 1967 and later Dana 44 axle differential side bearing applications. This is a First Class, original equipment quality bearing that meets or exceeds all vehicle manufacturer specifications making it the top choice for heavy-duty applications like yours. Country of origin may vary as Timken produces Bearings in plants located around the globe, however, QU50538 is almost always made in either Canada or the United States.

Applications

Tech Note 1: Always Replace
Always replace the cup and cone at the same time.

Tech Note 2: Matching Bearing Cup
The matching Bearing Cup will vary by application, but for most Dana-Spicer Model 44 Differentials, the matching Cup is QU50537.

Tech Note 3: Confirm Correct Bearing
Early production Dana 44 axles used QU50683 Small ID Differential Side bearing which has an inside diameter of 1.688". Later production axles use QU50538 Large ID Side Bearing with a 1.796" ID. For most front axles, the changeover year was 1967. In most cases, rear axles continued to use the small ID bearing into the early 1970's. If possible, confirm which bearing you need before ordering!

Tech Note 4: New Gear Set/New Diff
If you are installing a new gear set and/or a new differential you will need QT1097 Differential Master Bearings and a dial indicator. If one or both of your differential bearing cups wore sideways into the housing or a diff bearing spun on the differential and tore the shims, you will also need these tools to determine the correct shim packs. Both conditions are very common on rear axles especially with Diesel powered trucks.

Tech Note 5: Bearing Installer
Use QT1115 Installer to install QU50538 Bearing on a differential.

Tech Note 6: Tech Help
Rebearing service procedures are covered in my TM4400 Pinion and Differential Bearing Service on Dana-Spicer Monobeam Axles.
