Dodge used both Single Rear Wheel (SRW) and Dual Rear Wheel (DRW) versions of Dana 70 rear axles from 1972-1993.

Dodge used standard Dana 70 rear axles in 1972-1984.5 1 ton trucks and motorhome chassis plus some 400 series 1-1/4 ton motorhomes. The Dana 70HD Heavy-Duty rear axle is found in most 400 series and 500 series Dodge motorhomes of this vintage. The Dana 70HD has heavier gross axle weight ratings and it uses 4-1/8" differential side bearing cups compared to the 3-13/16" diameter cups found in standard Dana 70 rear axles. The standard Dana 70 axles were available in both single and dual rear versions for D300, D350, W300, and W350 1 ton trucks. Early in the 1984 model year, Dodge started using Dana 70U axles with 3-1/2" outside diameter inner pinion bearing cups instead of standard Dana 70 axles which have 4-1/8" outside diameter inner pinion bearing cups. Also, Dodge completely discontinued the use of Dana 70HD axles by the end of the 1984 model year. For truck models, the change date to the Dana 70U axles was for vehicles built after September 7, 1983.

We stock a wide selection of parts and tools for Dodge Dana 70 Rear Axles in 1984.5 to 1993 Dodge 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. The Dana 70 Rear Axles used by Dodge for 1984.5 to 1993 D250, W250, D350, and W350 trucks are "U" series axles that have a pinion offset of 0.625". The Dana 70U was used from 1984.5 to 1990. The Dana 70-2U can be found on some 1987-1990 trucks and on all 1991-1993 models. Except for Ring and Pinion Sets, most of the common service parts are identical for Dodge Dana 70U and Dana 70-2U axles. Dodge used both single rear wheel and dual rear wheel Dana 70 axles for 1 ton 350 series trucks. The single and dual rear wheel axles have different widths, spindles, hubs, and wheel bearings. All 1989-1993 Diesel 3/4 ton trucks will have a Dana 70 single rear wheel rear axle. Most gas engine D/W 250 series trucks use a Dana 60 instead of a Dana 70 unless equipped with a snow plow package or other heavy-duty option.
