Description

Spicer first supplied supplied End Yoke Style Double Cardan Constant Velocity Joints to General Motors for 1967 Model year K series 4x4. Although it now considered an obsolete design, it was used in numerous front and rear driveshaft applications Dodge, Ford, GM, and Jeep most recently in the Jeep Wrangler TJ. The bulk of the vehicles using the Spicer End Yoke Design CV Joint use it for the front driveshaft and were built between 1970 and 1999.  Early production shafts had a Greaseable CV Ball, while late production shafts have a Lubed-for-Life CV Ball.

An End Style Spicer CV Joint Consists of these parts:

  1. Ball Stud Tube Yoke: Welded to Tube. Takes inner u-joint. Has machined Metal Stud that supports CV Centering Assembly Ball and Socket
  2. U-Joints: Two External Snap Ring Type
  3. Center or H Yoke: Joins Inner and Outer U-Joints
  4. CV Centering Assembly Has Ball and Socket Joint that rides on Ball Stud Tube Yoke. Cradles outer u-joint. Bolts to Transfer Case Output Yoke.
  5. Transfer Case Output Yoke: Not part of the driveshaft, but when bolted to CV Centering Assembly completes the CV Joint.
  • Type: Double-Cardan Constant Velocity
  • End Yoke Type Centering Yoke: The CV Centering Yoke has half-round saddles and it mates to a transfer case output yoke also with half-round saddles. the Centering Yoke is drilled and tapped for 4 Bolts (Usually 5/16" SAE Thread). Ball Socket has needle bearings.
