Description
S9978 Medium Strength Blue 242 Threadlocker is our most widely used Threadlocker for automotive applications. Medium strength Threadlockers are used on most fasteners subject to vibration caused loosening that are not exposed to high heat. Typical applications include axle shaft flange bolts, spindle bolts, hub retaining bolts, ring gear bolts, pinion nuts, transmission fasteners, transfer case hardware, clutch cover bolts, flywheel bolts, and more.
Two sizes available, S9978 will typically treat 4-8 fasteners depending upon size, S24200 is usually enough to cover all the fasteners of a major component like an axle, transmission, or transfer case. USA Made.

Tech Note 1: When To Use
Shop manuals may or may not specify the use of a Threadlocking compound. Most older manuals do not make any reference to any thread treatment, but most recent ones do. With the exception of wheel lug nuts, most threaded fasteners used in automotive drivetrains could be candidates for either a Threadlocker or anti-seize compound. If your service manual gives no guidance, you need to base your decision on both environmental conditions (corrosive and/or wet) and the consequences that may occur if a fastener backs off. As a basic rule, I apply Threadlocker to most fasteners such as spindle bolts that could cause severe consequences if they loosened up. For things like cross member bolts that usually do not come loose, but are subject to corrosion, I use anti-seize.
