QU90001 Flanged Wheel Seal for many Dodge & Ford Front & Rear Axles

QU90001 Front or Rear Wheel Seal for Ford and Dodge is a high quality original equipment type seal that fits many front and/or rear applications on 1969-1996 Ford and 1977-2003 Dodge full size 4x2 and 4x4 models. For front wheel applications QU90001 is the correct replacement seal for most 1969.5-1996 Ford Dana 30/Dana 44 and 1985-1993 Dodge Dana 44 front axles with internally splined front wheel hubs. QU90001 also fits 1969.5-1979 Ford and 1977-2003 Dodge Dana 60 full-floating rear axles with 2" ID inner and outer wheel bearings. Flanged design ensures seal is installed to the correct depth. Tech Note 1: Seal Installer 
More wheel seals are wrecked from poor installation procedures than from any other cause. Use QT1502 Seal Installer with a QT1100 series driver handle to seat the seal square in the hub bore, without damage. After the seal is installed, lubricate the seal lips with clean wheel bearing grease.

Tech Note 2: 1969 Ford Front hub Design Change
QU90001 Seal was first used by Ford in mid 1969. Ford made a front seal/hub design change midway through the 1969 model year. The 1969.5-1975 hub uses 3.3" diameter QU90001 Seal instead of 3.25" diameter QU50654 Seal. My 1964-1972 Ford Parts Book has the 1969 seal part number break point listed differently in the hub (to serial number F70000) and axle parts (to serial number F30000) sections. I believe the hub section is correct, but if your 1969 4x4 has a VIN between F30000 and F70001, you should physically verify which seal you need. The Break points are determined by the 1969 Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Tech Note 3: 1969 Ford Rear Hub Design Change 
Ford made a rear hub design change during the 1969 the model year. My Ford parts book lists the change effective at VIN F30001. Most aftermarket sources list the change occurring at VIN F70001. If your 1969 F250 has a VIN between F30000 and F70001, you should physically verify which seal you need.

Tech Note 4: 1987-1988 Ford Dana 44IFS with Manual Hubs
For the 1987 and 1988 model year vehicles built to March 1988 (on some models to May 1988), Ford Broncos and F150 4x4s with factory manual hubs have a unique, one-piece "pancake" hub/rotor with two large diameter, close-set wheel bearings. The lockout hub is a flange mount type that fits over the wheel studs. These 1987-1988.5 hubs use QU50166 seal.

Tech Note 5: 1995-1996 Ford Dana 44IFS Front Seal
Almost all 1995-1996 Ford F150 and Bronco use a different wheel seal. The seal change was necessary to provide clearance for the ABS Brake Tone Ring. However, My Ford parts books do list 1995, 1996 U150 (Bronco) with a 3.07 gear ratio and manual hubs that does use QU90001 seal. I never saw one and Dana does not show a Bill of Material list for this axle, but presumably Ford did build some 1995-1996 Broncos with the older wheel hub/seal design for fleet use or no-frills buyers.

Tech Note 6: 2" Rear Axle Spindle 
For rear wheel applications, QU90001 is used for Dodge D/W200 D/W250 and Ford F250 Dana 60 rear axles that use 2" ID wheel bearings for BOTH the inner and outer positions. It may also be used on 3/4 ton van or light duty 1 ton 4x2 or van models that use the same bearings.

Tech Note 7: Seal Design Changes 
Since mid-1969, Ford went through a number wheel seal redesigns for front and rear wheel applications covered by QU90001. QU90001 may look different compared to your original seal, but it is equal or superior to any of the preceding designs and it is suitable for both rear wheel (oil seal) and front wheel (grease seal) applications.
