Applications
Tech Note 1: Hub Nut Adjustment Specs
Line up the tab on the spindle nut with the key slot in the spindle. Install the spindle nut. (Note: When installing the spindle nut, apply inward pressure to the spindle nut socket to disengage the ratcheting components of the hub nut.) While rotating the wheel hub to seat the bearings, use QT1019i Socket or similar tool to torque the spindle nut to 70 lb.ft. (95 Nm). Back off the nut 1/4 turn. Re-torque the spindle nut to 18 lb.ft. (24 Nm). Use a Dial Indicator to check hub and bearing end-play. There should be 0.000" end-play. Use an inch-pound torque wrench and either QT1263 or QT1265 Hub Plates to measure the torque required to rotate the hub which should not exceed 20 INCH Pounds (2.3 Nm). If not within specification, slightly adjust the nut as needed.

Tech Note 3: Do I need these tools for other axles?
Yes. Both QT1263 & QT1265 Test Plate Tools will fit rear wheel hubs on Ford F250 & F350 models with Dana 60, Dana 70, & Sterling 10.25” or 10.50” rear axles. They also will fit the rear wheel hubs on most Dodge & RAM ¾ & 1 Ton models from 1972 to at least 2018. However, the wheel bearing adjustment procedures on these axles are different, so a rotating torque value is not usually required.
Tech Note 4: What happens if my wheel bearings are too tight?
If your bearings are too tight, they will overheat & fail prematurely which can lead to a very expensive repair!
Tech Note 5: Do I need to measure my hub rotating torque with used wheel bearings?
You still need to measure your rotating torque, however, a skilled technician can adjust the spindle nut to set the rotating torque for the used bearings to a lower value, but still within the Ford Factory specs.
