Tech Note 1: Knuckle Seal
The Outer Axle Shaft to Knuckle Seal has to come out in order to remove the front axle shafts on all 4x4 Ford Excursion and 1999 to 2004 Super Duty® F-series 4x4s. The Ford Factory Shop Manual recommends driving on the old knuckle seal with a hammer and brass punch to remove the seal or shaft and seal together. This method works although it may be quite tedious and you have to be very careful not to nick the axle shaft or steering knuckle bore. QT1123 was developed to speed the process up in our own shop and get the shaft out without chancing collateral damage to the shaft and knuckle.

Tech Note 2: Product Note
QT1123 relies on friction between the Tool and Axle Shaft. Some seals are so stuck in place that the tool will slip. A couple of smart whacks with a Dead-Blow hammer on the side of the outer axle shaft will usually twist the seal enough to break it free.
