Tech Note 2: Axle Shaft Flange Gaskets and Spindle Hardware
GM 14 Bolt Axles will use different Axle Shaft Flange Gaskets & Spindle Hardware depending upon the year.
Axle Shaft Flange Gaskets: 1973-1991 Order (2) QU30010, 1992-2000 Order (2) QU30108
Spindle Nut Lockwasher: QU40038 (fits Double Spindle Nuts used through 1979 plus some 1980, 1981)
Spindle Nut Retainer Ring: QU30109 (Fits Single Spindle Nut, first used mid 1980, fits 1980-2000).

Tech Note 3: To Install
The GM 14 Bolt/Dana 70/Dana 70HD Full Floating Rear Axle Hub is designed so the outer wheel bearing and cup are installed from the BACKSIDE of the hub before the inner wheel bearing components are assembled. Therefore, installation of the outer wheel bearing requires three tools (besides a driver handle) instead of one. The flat side of QT1801 Cup Installer is used to drive/press the outer cup in until it clears the snap ring groove. The Snap Ring is then installed in the hub groove with a long reach pliers or snap ring pliers (tool depends upon snap ring type). Next you use a suitable tool to drive/press the cup back against the snap ring. Inner Wheel Bearing and Seal installation is done in the conventional manner.

Tech Note 4: 1994
In 1994, General Motors sold it's axle division to a group of investors who renamed their new acquisition American Axle Manufacturing (AAM). The AAM 14 Bolt, 10-1/2" Ring Gear full floater rear axle is what used to be called the Chevy or GM corporate 14 Bolt, 10-1/2" Ring Gear full float rear axle.
