Description

Closed Knuckle Lubricant for Closed Knuckle 4x4 Front Axles is a high-quality, rust-inhibited, dark brown lithium based Extreme Pressure semi-flowable Grease with good water resistance and long life and is the perfect lube for using in all closed knuckle front axle knuckle balls to lubricate the axle u-joints and knuckle bearings. Each tube contains approximately 11 fl.oz. of lubricant. Note: Closed Knuckle Lubricant is now in a caulking gun tube and it replaces QU90004 16 oz. bottle.

Recommended Amount:
Small Dana 44 (8 bolt knuckle)
use 6oz per side. Buy 2 tubes for each axle.
Large, Heavy Duty Dana 44, Dana 60 and Dana 70 (12 bolt knuckle) can use up to 16oz per side. The amount varies on which type of Dana axle you have. Buy 3 tubes for each axle.

Applications

Tech Note 1: Product Note
Unlike conventional grease, Closed Knuckle Lubricant is thin enough to ooze into the axle u-joints and knuckle bearings/bushings. Differing from conventional SAE 140 and SAE 250 gear lubes, the high viscosity, semi-fluid nature of our Closed Knuckle Lubricant insures it will NOT significantly leak past Knuckle Ball Seals that are in good condition. This combination of properties makes Closed Knuckle Lubricant the ideal product for closed knuckle u-joint and king pin bearing/bushing lubrication.

Tech Note 2: Leaking Differential Oil
Due to the age of Dana Closed Knuckle axles, one often finds the inner axle oil seals are leaking differential oil down the axle tubes and into the Knuckle Ball. Besides the obvious risk of burning up your gear set from lack of lubrication, the leaked out gear lube will dilute your Closed Knuckle Lubricant and in advanced cases wash out the front wheel bearing grease.

    Closed Knuckle Lubricant

    Tristan on Apr 13, 2022

Haven't torn my axle apart yet but this stuff is basically impossible to find elsewhere. There are lots of references to this type of lubricant in service manuals but none states a specific type or brand. Was very glad to find this one. Product was well packaged, had clear instructions and was delivered very quickly.

    Closed knuckle lube

Stumbled on this on the web. Many in the Jeep community think that closed knuckle lube is not available. Novak states lube is unavailable and has a recipe on their site . Thanks for making this available.
