Applications
Tech Note 1: Serrated Ball Joints
Virtually all current production replacement Ball Joints for 1972-1986 Dana 30 and 1969-1993 Dana 44 Solid Beam Front Axles have serrated cases instead of the smooth cases found on Dana original equipment Ball Joints like our QU40187. The serrations are supposed to provide a more secure fit than original, however, some offshore Ball Joint manufacturers have increased the case diameter to the point that the holes in the knuckle are permanently enlarged when these oversized ball joints are installed. When this happens, the knuckle will need to be replaced the next time the ball joints are replaced.
Tech Note 2: Greaseable or Non-Greaseable?
Which is better Greaseable or Non-Greaseable Ball Joints? The answer really depends on you. How good your maintenance is and how wet your operating conditions are. For the today's average truck owner, a non-greaseable Ball Joint Set will probably last as long or longer than greaseable parts that are poorly maintained. If you operate under a lot of wet conditions and you are good about regular maintenance, than greaseable Ball Joints should provide significantly longer life than nongreaseable Ball Joints under the same conditions. If you are somewhere in the middle, it is a hard call to make as the increased cost of quality greaseable Ball Joints may or may not be justified by the potential for increased part life. See QU50222 and QU52110 for our Greaseable Ball Joints.
Tech Note 3: Does Not Fit F-150 Super Cab
1977-1978 Ford F150 Super Cab 4x4s use different Steering Knuckles that are NOT interchangeable with F-150 4x4 regular cab axles
Tech Note 4: Ball Joint Press Set
Using our TS4788 Ball Joint Press Set is the easiest and safest way to press out your old Ball Joints and install the new ones but it is not the only way. Other methods can be used, but you have to be careful for safety reasons and to prevent breaking your steering knuckles.

Being used I was a little concerned about what I would get, but despite being decades old the knuckles (I bought left and right) looked like someone had put clean knuckles out to rust a bit, except mating surfaces were spotless. Very pleased. Price was better than several other places I checked. Highly recommend.
