Tech Note 1: Only Fits Dana GVW F-250 50IFS
F-250 4x4s were available with either the 3800/3850 pound capacity Dana 44IFS or the optional 4600 pound rated Dana 50IFS Independent Front Suspension Twin Traction Beam® front drive axles. QU20279 Diff Housing only fits the heavy GVW F250s with Dana 50IFS front axles. If you are not sure which axle your F250 has, look at the front hubs. Dana 44 front hubs have an outside diameter roughly 3-3/8". Dana 50IFS axle hub diameter is about 4-1/8

Tech Note 2: Not Interchangeable
The major difference between 1980-1983.5 and 1983.5-1997 Ford Dana 50IFS front axles is the way the right differential output shaft is supported and retained. The early axles use a pressed-on taper roller bearing and an external bolt-on retaining flange. Later production axles use a straight roller bearing pressed into the differential housing and the axle shaft is retained by a snap ring inside the differential next to the differential side gear. QU20279U is NOT interchangeable with 1980-1983.5 diff housings having bolt in diff output shafts.
