QU10733U Used Early Type NV4500 Shift Cover

QU10733U Used Early Type NV4500 Shift Cover Assembly with Integral Tower Design for Parts Specific to 1994-1997 Dodge, but QU10733U will fit any Dodge and GM NV4500 that does not require threaded holes on the right side of the cover for brake or transfer case control levers.  These covers are used and are being sold as-is at the value of the parts. All will show wear in the shift stub seat and they may need other parts, but the rails and at least two of the forks are serviceable. Between one of these covers and your original cover, you should be able to come up with enough serviceable pieces to make one good assembly. USA Made. Available while supplies last.

Tech Note 1: Top Covers
Several different push and twist style top covers were used on early production New Venture NV4500 5 speed manual transmissions. Some had threaded bosses for control levers, some were equipped with a reverse gear shift inhibitor. QU10733U is a used cover sold for parts that will have components which will fit any of the 1992-1997 NV4500 covers with the integral tower. If you want an all new cover, you can order QU10706 Late Cover + QK1127 Shift Tower Kit + QK1025 Lever Kit while supplies last.

Tech Note 2: Early NV4500 Transmissions
If you have an older NV4500 with the integral shaft tower (GM to 1995, Dodge to 1997), and you have trouble shifting into gear (usually 3rd or 4th) the culprit may be a worn shift tower seat. A very strong spring exerts down pressure against the shift stub. Over time, the stub will wear into the integral aluminum seat. In extreme cases, the seat wears to the point where the shift stub base will hit the shift rail. When this happens, the friction between the rail and stub can make shifting very difficult or cause the shifter stub to jump out of the rail notch. The solution is to replace QU10262 cover plate or cover assembly. The later design, QU10706 flat top cover with a removable tower is less prone to wear in the shift tower. Early and late covers are interchangeable as far as fitting the transmission goes, but you have to make sure you order the correct stub or tower to match your shifter when changing top cover types.

Tech Note 3: Tech Help
The shift cover on NV4500 transmissions was not designed to be disassembled. No factory provisions are provided for removing the 1-2 and 3-4 forks and rails. That does not mean it cannot be done. Tech Note 4: Sealants
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied theadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
