QU50437 Standard Differential Bearing and Seal Kit for Dodge or Ford Dana 80 Rear Axles fits Dana 80 Full Float Rear Axles. QU50437 features first class Timken® Differential and Pinion Bearings, Pinion Seal for most years (1994-1999), Pinion Nut, Gear Marking Compound, Threadlocker, and RTV Sealant. QU50437 Kit works on all 1988-1997 Ford Dana 80 axles and 1994-1999 Dodge Dana 80 axles as is and all 2000-2002 Dodge Dana 80 rear axles if you change the (See Tech Note 2). This Kit, plus two optional QU40078 axle shaft flange gaskets are usually all the parts needed when you are doing a simple diff rebearing job and not replacing your Ring and Pinion Set or repacking/replacing the wheel bearings.

Tech Note 1: Gear Set Breakage
Gear set breakage caused by worn and loose Differential Bearings is one of the biggest killers of rear axles. When the differential bearings wear, the backlash between the ring gear and pinion gear will change. Most often, it increases as the ring gear side differential bearing usually takes the brunt of the wear. As the backlash increases beyond approximately 0.010", the chances of breaking a gear tooth increase dramatically. Additionally, a rough and worn differential bearing is very likely to break free and spin on the differential case which will usually mean the case must be replaced. To minimize the chances of wrecking expensive differential parts, I recommend completely re-bearing Dana 80 axles at or before 150,000 miles.

Tech Note 2: Seal Choices
The Pinion Seal included in this Kit is an aftermarket, non-hydrodynamic seal for 1994-1999 trucks. Not a bad seal but not as good as our QU40302 1994-1999 Pinion Seal with Hydrodynamic Lip Design which can be ordered separately. For 2000-2002 trucks, you need to order the two separate seals used on the two piece seal style used on 2000-2002 axles. There is an outer wiper seal and two different, non-interchangeable inner seals. You need to identify which inner seal you have or order both to be sure of the correct part. The 2000-2002 original equipment Pinion Seal Choices are:
QU40335 1st Design Pinion Seal (Shallow shell, no seating flange. Most 2000, some 2001, rare in 2002)
QU40248 2nd Design Pinion Seal (Deep shell, has seating flange. Some in 2000, many 2001, almost all 2002)
QU40251 Pinion V-Seal (Outer Wiper Seal used for all 2000-2002 with either QU40335 or QU40248)

Tech Note 6: Changing Gear Sets
If you are changing gear sets, your new Pinion Depth must be set before calculating the differential shim pack thicknesses. After setting the pinion depth, use a dial indicator and QT1099 Master Bearings to determine the number of shims required to get the required gear lash and differential bearing preload.
