QU50206 1974-1979 Dodge 4x4 Front Outer Wheel Seal is an original equipment quality wheel seal for 1974-1979 Ramcharger, W100, W150, W200, and W250 with Dana 44 live spindle front axles. This seal fits in your 6 Bolt Wheel Bearing Retainer (QU40268). QU50206 was also used as an inner wheel seal for early 1974 models (See Tech Note 2).

Tech Note 1: Lockout Hubs
1974-1979 Dodge 4x4 trucks with Dana 44 live spindle front axles did not have lockout hubs from the factory, instead, the outer axle shaft is threaded for a castellated nut. Warn did make a lockout hub for a Doug Nash conversion that fit the Ramcharger or 1/2 ton axles but it has been out of production for decades and no service parts are available for the conversion or Warn hubs that I know of.

Tech Note 2: Greaseable Wheel Bearings
If you have greaseable wheel bearings (grease fitting in bearing retainer), you can replace QU40072, QU40073, QU40074 3 Piece Outer Axle Shaft Seal Set with QU50206 Seal, however EXTREME CARE must be taken when greasing your wheel bearings to prevent the Seal from being forced out of the knuckle! Early production 1974 models without greaseable wheel bearings used QU50206 Seal for both the inner (axle shaft) and outer (wheel hub) wheel seals. When used as the inner seal, the seal contacts the outer axle shaft directly. The v-seal, cup and slinger found on later models are not used.

Tech Note 3: Loose Wheel Bearings
Loose wheel bearings are a common problem with the 1974-1979 Dodge Dana 44 Live Spindle front axle. Since the bearings are not adjustable, it only takes about 0.005" combined total wear on your wheel bearings, wheel hub, bearing retainer, and/or steering knuckle to have loose wheel bearings. I worked on a lot of these Dodge trucks in the 1970's and 1980's and I found worn hubs on probably close to 50% of the vehicles with loose wheel bearings. If both the inner and outer wheel bearings are not a tight press fit on your old Hub, you MUST replace it with a new hub!
