Applications

Tech Note 1: Hubs
1980-1996 F-250 4x4s were available with either the 3800/3850 pound capacity Dana 44IFS or the optional 4600 pound rated Dana 50IFS Independent Front Suspension Twin Traction Beam® front drive axles. QU50056 Ball Joint only fits the heavy GVW F250s with Dana 50IFS front axles. If you are not sure which axle your F250 has, look at the front hubs. Dana 44 front hubs have an outside diameter roughly 3-3/8". Dana 50IFS axle hub diameter is about 4-1/8".

Tech Note 2: Tools
Ford Dana 50IFS Front Axles use a unique lower Ball Joint that was not used on any other application. To press your Ball Joints in or out of the steering knuckles, see TS4511 Ball Joint Press Set which also works on many Dana 60 axles.

Tech Note 3: Camber Bushing
The Ball Joints are the same for all 1980-1997 Ford Dana 50IFS front axles, but different replaceable upper ball joint camber bushings were used depending upon the year and suspension. In many, perhaps most cases, the original camber bushing was replaced during a front end alignment at some point in the vehicles history. If possible, install the camber bushing from your old ball joints, then have your front end aligned by a competent front end specialist who can check and change toe-in, camber, and caster as needed.
