D471288 Greaseable 1310 x 1330 Series Unequal Length Cross Universal Joint is a very good quality USA made, universal joint with flexible rubber seals for your vintage Ford. D471288 is similar in construction and strength to your original rear u-joints making it a perfect match for your part time transfer case equipped 1959-1966 F100 or 1959-1975 F250 standard cab 4x4.

Tech Note 1: U-Joint Specs
D471288 is a external snap ring type, unequal length cross universal joint Spicer 1310 x 1330 series. Cup diameter is 1-1/16". Installed width of short span is 3-7/32". Installed width of wide span is 3-5/8".

Tech Note 2: Other Applications
To the best of my knowledge, 1959-1966 F100 and 1959-1977.5 F250 4x4 trucks are the only production 4x4 vehicles that used a factory 1310 x 1330 u-joint. However, these special u-joints are often found in other vehicles that have been modified to adapt 1310 to 1330 components as part of a drivetrain conversion.

Tech Note 3: Verify
On most, but not all Ford driveshafts that use D471288 u-joints, both ends of the driveshaft have 1310 series yokes and the transfer case and axle yokes are 1330 series. There are a couple of rear driveshaft and transmission to transfer case coupling shaft applications that use QU40784 1310 series u-joint on one end and D471288 1310 x 1330 series on the other end. Before ordering, always verify what u-joints your truck has.

Tech Note 4: Alternative U-Joints
Over the years, I converted a lot of older Ford driveshafts from 1310 x 1330 to straight 1330. I am sure we were not the only shop doing that. If your vintage Ford was so modified, you need TK40721 or D471288 u-joints which have cup diameters of 1-1/16" and an overall width is 3-5/8" for both spans.

Tech Note 5: Tech Help
More universal joints and driveshaft yokes are wrecked by slam-bang methods of u-joint replacement than by any other cause. Refer to TM3000 Driveshaft and Universal Joint Manual or TSB3502 External Snap Ring Single-Cardan U-Joint Service.

Tech Note 6: Grease
Service intervals for this greaseable universal joint will vary with your driving conditions and type of grease you use, but as a minimum, you should grease your u-joints with QU90018 Pyroplex® Plus Synthetic Grease or other quality, water resistant NLGI #2 GC-LB grease at every oil change or every three months which ever comes sooner. Lube more frequently in extremely wet conditions or after submersion under water. Remember, a greaseable joint that is not regularly lubed will prematurely fail from water contamination or grease loss.
