Tech Note 1: ID Your Axle Model:
Dana Spicer Model 60, 61, and 70, axles all use the same bolt pattern for the differential cover so trying to identify what your exact axle model is can be difficult. In most cases, knowing the year and truck model will narrow the search considerably, but the best way to ID your exact axle model and internal parts is with the Bill of Material number that is stamped on a metal tag affixed to the differential cover by two cover bolts. (See the Axle ID Section in our Help Pages/Dodge & Ram Rear Axle ID).

Tech Note 2: Years:
As an example to illustrate my Tech Note 1, this Kit has the correct parts for 1984.5 through 1999 Dana Spicer Model 70U and 70-2U Rear Axles used in many 3/4 ton and 1 ton Dodge 4x2 and 4x4 trucks. It will not work on early 1984 and older Model 70 equipped Dodge trucks due to bearing differences. If you have a 2000 to 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Model 70, see TK4853 as you have 2 pinion seal choices, both of which are different than the single seal used in this kit.

Tech Note 5: Changing Gear Sets:
If you are changing gear sets, your new Pinion Depth must be set before calculating the differential shim pack thicknesses. After setting the pinion depth, use a dial indicator and QT1098 Master Bearings to determine the amount of shims required to get the required gear lash and differential bearing preload.
