Applications
Tech Note 1: To Remove Stuck Spindle
To easily remove a stuck spindle, use QT9308i 5 pound slide hammer and QT1024 Spindle Puller.
Tech Note 2: Lube Spindle Bearing, Thrust Washer, and Seals
Before installing your new spindle, lube the bearing, seals, and thrust washer with QU90018 Pyroplex® or QU90032 Spicer Life Ultra-Premium synthetic greases.
Tech Note 3: Apply Anti-Seize Compound
Apply some S81343 Anti-Seize Compound to the mating surfaces between the spindle and steering knuckle and also the Disc Brake Shield and Spindle. The Anti-Seize Compound will make removing the spindle at your next front end service a lot easier! Do NOT apply anti-seize to the seal or bearing surfaces.
Tech Note 4: Often Overlooked
The spindle is secured to the knuckle with all-metal Class C Lock Nuts which loose some of their holding power with each reuse. While you might be able to get away with applying threadlocker to the threads, I strongly recommend you install new nuts along with medium strength 242 blue threadlocker. The cost of a handful of new USA made Certified QU95036 Class C nuts is pretty minor compared to the damage that could result by reusing old, worn-out nuts.
Tech Note 5: Also Check
Replacing your spindle(s) means you already have done most of the work needed to replace most other front end components. Always check your king pins, wheel bearings, axle shafts, axle u-joints and brakes PLUS check for evidence of inner axle oil seal leaks. Given the age of the vehicles this spindle fits, chances are the inner axle oil seals are hardened and/or cracked from long life. If you see oil dampness on the inner axle shafts or inside the axle tubes, your inner axle seals are toast.
