Tech Note 2: Dana 80 Rear Axles
Dana 80 rear axle were first used in a production vehicle for the 1988 Ford F-350 Super Duty 4x2 Cab and Chassis. Ford continues to use the Dana 80 in F350 dually trucks to the present day. Dodge also used Dana 80 axles from 1994 to 2002 and GM briefly used them from 1992 to 2000. Dodge is the only make that used a Single Rear Wheel (SRW) Dana 80. All other Dana 80 rear axles are for Dual Rear Wheel (DRW) applications.
Tech Note 3: RTV Sealant
Almost all Dana 80 rear axles were built using RTV sealant between the cover and housing. Dana does not offer a factory fiber gasket for this application.
Tech Note 4: Do Not Use RTV with Reusable Gaskets
QU42031 Dana 80 Reusable Gaskets are manufactured by Dana-Spicer. These excellent gaskets feature a woven steel core, non-asbestos facing, and are coated with Teflon® so the gasket does not stick to your axle housing or cover. Do NOT use RTV sealant with reusable gaskets!
